#repost ✨This is so important to keep in mind✨ . . . Without “soft skills” it’s hard to have lasting relationships, succeed in a work environment with others, and overall remain happy and calm in difficult situations that go well past academic years. Pay attention to social communication and emotional regulation development. They’re not a grade on a report card.
The writing was on the wall tonight during bath....literally! . . . Writing on a vertical surface improves wrist extension and pencil grasp. Vertical surface writing naturally puts the wrist in an extended position which encourages better pencil grasp and fine motor control of writing utensils. . . . These are just mirror markers from Amazon! When I was growing up my mom used to leave us positive messages on our bathroom mirrors to read while brushing our teeth so they were the last thing we saw before bed and right when we woke up ❤️. I bought the mirror markers to carry on the tradition and to allow for some extra fun art time during bath! Learning can happen anywhere!
@hugsandbugsclub made all of her dreams come true today with a POOL full of pink balloons! Swimming in “bubbles” and letting imaginations (and hair) run wild! We’re so lucky to have such creative and amazing sensory and play focused classes to grow with! I’m constantly amazed at the way that children learn through even the simplest experiences! Might be filling our bathtub with balloons tonight?! . . . #hoboken #hobokenmoms #hugsandbugsclub #hobokenslp #motherhoodunplugged #letthemplay #sensoryplay
*Seeing and DOING* Another study regarding the harmful effects of screen time regarding early childhood development was just released BUT for every parent out there feeling overwhelmed or guilty about allowing SOME screen time there’s an important line to note. Screen time WITHOUT parents present. . . . As in anything in life finding a balance is key. Screen time and play can help with learning new vocabulary when monitored and built upon! These brownies were made right after an episode of Daniel Tiger learning to bake! This mom is in her third trimester and needed to sit (zero shame). I keep easy brownie and pancake mixes to use to explore sequencing, parts of a whole, actions, objects, etc. Motor skills even get worked on with stirring and scooping. As well as attention! Not to mention cleaning the bowls afterward with all the bubbles! . . . This simple, fun, and rewarding activity COOKING...brought to you by a mom/therapist courtesy of some supervised screen time! . . . If you have kiddos slightly older take pictures during baking and make them into a short story! Sequencing and personal narrative development home run!
My girl who loves pink, sparkles, dirt, trucks, bugs, tea parties, construction work and trains ❤️until Spring little herb garden. Living in the city doesn’t mean she can’t farm a little too!
No Time Art Time Tips! . . . Messy play is incredibly beneficial for a child’s sensory development. Including glue! . . . Cutting paper into different shapes and gluing them is a great way to build new spatial, action, and descriptive vocabulary! Sticky, press, on top, shapes, colors, etc! . . . Glitter letters and numbers are AMAZING tactile cues! The glitter is rough so tracing it with their fingers gives children extra input while learning! Leaving a letter or number out is a great way to practice tracing and letter or number ID! . . . Best of all is this type of activity takes no time to put together and can result in all sorts of creativity! As always follow your child’s lead and let their imaginations roam free! This is one of the best ways to build emotional connection with language development!
